New Journal Site

I'm here! Creating this site was very slightly easier than I expected -- meaning I had it done just after noon on Saturday instead of late on Sunday -- partly because I have some experience in Unix and with using ftp and telnet, rusty though it is, but mostly because there are very helpful instructions for uploading MovableType to Dreamhost here.

Once I get this site fully set up, all new entries will be posted here instead of at Diaryland. Archives may or may not be moved over, depending how onerous that turns out to be. (Right now I think that may be unlikely, given that I have over 1200 entries in the old archives.)

If you have the dland membership that will let you export your entries you may be able to then format them in such a way that would let you import them into MT. I had to export mine and format them by hand and it took me a good long afternoon to do it. You may want to look or ask on the MT support forum if anyone there has managed to do it w/o having to input all the right field names manually.

(Look at the instructions from importing from Blogger or Greymatter for an idea of what the import template needs to look like--for that matter, you could probably change your Dland template to that template and then highlight and copy each entry into a text file. Laborious, yes, but better than having to go through and put in TIME: DATE: TITLE: BODY: AUTHOR: on every blessed entry.)

I like these colors, incidentally. Very soothing.

That's lovely. (Did you mean "compliment" or "complement"?) Golfwidow, I think, did a successful move from one domain to another; you might ask here what the parameters were.

In case you haven't moved your diaryland entries from diaryland to movable type yet, I wrote a script a long time ago you may find useful.
